u14 Reds - Dominate Local Rivals Lakers on the Double

Lions u14's took on local rivals, Lakers in a home match in the Kerry League on Friday night. After a slow start in which the Lions were miles off the pace, they recovered and in the second half, aided by Luke Ryans 26 points, beat the Lakers comfortably in the end.

Harry Coyne was understandably frustrated by the Lions opening period, where they were missing easy chances, failed to finish off layups and played some poor defense.

After the 'hairdryer' treatment at half time, Lions finally started to play. Ian Coates was getting some good looks at the basket and was shooting well, with Diarmuid O'Shea and Aaron Madden dominating under the basket. Shane McNamara put pressure on the Lakers ball carrier and got some crucial turnovers that started the Lions fast break game, which Luke Ryan converted to scores. Cian Collins and Conor Cullen, made a good contribution to the win as well as Michael Hickey and Eoin Fahey - both grabing some nice rebounds. Sean Moran also contributed well and showed some good touches.

Emmet Ryan carried well and set up some well worked plays  - that ended in scores with Emmet Gleeson getting some nice scores. A win in the end, but they will need to be sharper in the opening periods of games, espically against tougher opposition.

The teams met again on Sunday in the North Munster League. In this game Lions were again not at their best but managed to see off their local rivals with 5 points to spare. Michael Hickey had a particularly good game for Lions and there were also some fine scores from Luke Ryan, Diarmuid O’Shea, Emmet Gleeson, Ian Coates and Shane McNamara and some good defence from Cian Collins and Eoin Fahey.
